To Bury itself, and, Buried, to Bury itself

Bianca Zapatier

This is an imitation of Gina Franco's "To Shelter Itself and, Sheltered, to Conceal Itself.” I rarely experiment with styles myself, though I am fascinated by experimental and surrealist poetry. When I read this particular poem, I was enchanted by the way Gina Franco was able to blur the lines of storytelling with such great conviction. Honoring the original poem, I wrote a response that also draws from a true story that I would find difficult to convey in any other style.
