The Center of The Universe

For my AP-3D SI this past year, I explored themes of nostalgia and escapism. My bedroom has always been a sacred space of safety in my life—a still calm in the harsh, spinning world. In this piece, I represent myself as the Star character (a fully articulated stop-motion doll), while my mother and father are represented through the Moon and Sun characters featured on the walls of the set bedroom. Together, I aimed to use the themes to create a warm, fuzzy, and familiar tone for the viewer - reflecting my own feelings towards this place of comfort.
Moon Man & his Moon Clothes

This Moon character is a fully articulated doll I created to experiment with stop motion. My biggest challenge by far was making his fingers movable - a process I solved with a gloob of hot glue and some floral wire. But, my favorite part of the process was learning how to use my sewing machine in order to assemble his costume.
