CRIMSON

MONOCHROMATIC ESSENCE

My piece “crimson” is a tribute to light. In shooting this piece, I encapsulated a photographer’s closest friend (and, on occasion, worst enemy). The piece uses colored, angled light to illuminate certain features on the face of the subject, and in doing so, is reminiscent, in some way, of old theological imagery. The ties between the lighting of the photograph and religious icons make the photo seem reverent in an indecipherable manner.

This monochromatic painting depicts a few personal objects that show insight into my personality, such as those of my interests or aesthetic choices. Additionally, by using high contrast with a soft and blended look, the painting has an enhanced sense of depth and dimension. The composition was set in a way to balance the background with the objects.
