This piece was visually inspired by the artistic movements of European expressionism and the Ashcan School movement from the late 19th-early 20th century. The motive behind the content of the piece was inspired by the process of daily life passing us by, with some narrative undertones subjective to the reader. It's meant to be interpreted differently by each person who sees it, so they can project their own experiences and see it as a reflection of themselves.

This painting conveys the anxiety of watching the clock tick later and later, unable to fall asleep. The startling pink instills anxiety and fear, associated with building anxiety and the lack of control over the passage of time. Layered brushstrokes juxtapose the swirling, ticking motion of the surrounding world with the eerie stillness of the figure.
