Red touches yellow
She’s a red lip, red bottom, hair spray type of killer.
A sapphire scorpion cradles her neck.
Gluttony is a cardinal sin.
You're lucky your heart would hardly sell for a bushel of beans,
or I’d have it skewered in the city market,
but you’re unlucky I don’t need the money.
You sing a song I’ve heard before,
of late nights smoking guns and tv dinners watching channel 9 news.
Too bad I’m not impressed.
You’re messy, and messy gets us caught.
I have no problem shooting a man when he’s down.
No one will ever know.
A red bottom heel
spears your eye.
I found your tarnished onyx capsule ring laced with rohypnol.
I don’t play with cheaters,
but I never play with predators.
You tried and failed to dispatch my heart, my body,
so I’ll dispatch yours first,
and I won’t fail.
Give me one good reason not to.
Oh —
too late.
Oops!
Don’t worry, I’ll watch from behind the yellow tape
with a lawn chair and a bucket of buttered popcorn
as they pull the blackened blanket over your body
My inspiration for this piece comes from wanting to express the emotions of a vigilante. I was also inspired by the show "Arrow," and I wanted to show how vigilantes have codes, morals, and ethics, too. This womna is a fashionable killer and had been working with a man who she found was roofying girls. She discovered this and happily killed him for his sins. My inspiration for the title "Red Touches Yellow" is the saying "red touches yellow kills a fellow," which I feel represents this piece.
As an artist, I create to give voice to the words that cannot be spoken aloud and to bring to life worlds that exist beyond the limits of our mundane reality. Art is my path to uncovering my truest self, a way to seek freedom in a universe often confined by rigid expectations and the simplicity of black and white thinking. Through my work, I explore the narrative of a person caught between the demands of external roles and the yearning for true self-expression.
