Color Everywhere

I made this film for FPL’s student artistic performance auditions for National Hispanic Heritage Month. Inspired by Netflix’s TV adaptation of "100 Years of Solitude,” I wanted to emulate the series’ magical realism and the distinctive style of its director, Laura Mora. My film tells the story of an artist who struggles to find inspiration, although it is right in front of her all along. Elements of magical realism—such as moving inanimate objects and the interplay between color and black-and-white elements within the same scene—work to convey the film’s theme of enchantment being all around us in a way that—I hope—Laura Mora would be proud of.

There Were Soft Rains

I see the sun rise over the ocean every morning during my ride to school, and this photo was inspired by those sunrises. They look different every morning; sometimes there’s rain and wind-chopped waves or gloomy clouds in the distance, but somehow the sun always manages to poke through. I took this photo on one such morning and edited it to capture how I see even the gloomiest sunrise: a reminder that, no matter how tired or stressed I am, the sun is always going to be a bright light that guides me. The photo's title is an allusion to Ray Bradbury's story "There Will Be Soft Rains," which I inverted to show that maybe nature is not indifferent to humanity, but, instead, there for us when we need it.
